On This Date in Legal History

On September 20, 1845, President James Polk nominated Levi Woodbury to the United States Supreme Court. According to the Supreme Court Historical Society, he was the first Associate Justice to attend law school. He attended Tapping Reeve Law School in Litchfield, Connecticut.
