On July 27, 1965, Congress passed the “Federal Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act.”

The Act provides that all cigarette containers must have a conspicuous warning—“Caution: Cigarette Smoking May Be Hazardous to Your Health.” You can read the law at http://1.usa.gov/1et8g6D.
