Will Baseball Fans Have to Endure Another Trial Involving Roger Clemens?

The short answer is– yes. Roger Clemens, with 354 career victories and seven Cy Young Awards, struck out this week. Clemens asked a federal judge in New York to dismiss Brian McNamee’s entire defamation claim against him, but the court denied his request. McNamee (who used to provide Clemens with personal training services) says he injected Clemens with steroids. Clemens has denied all drug use. He’s accused McNamee of being a liar and manufacturing evidence. The judge found, “if McNamee’s allegations are proven, Clemens will have knowingly lied when he called McNamee a liar and his statements defamatory. These statements impugning his integrity can form the basis of a defamation action.” Clemens was handed some good news, though– his alleged defamatory statements, that McNamee had a mental disorder and extorted him, were dismissed along with McNamee’s claims for intentional infliction of emotional distress and malicious prosecution.
